U=U Campaign

Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U). A person who is living with HIV who is on treatment and has an undetectable viral load cannot transmit HIV through sex.

What is U=U?

U=U is a Prevention Access Campaign and community built for individuals with HIV. People living with HIV have collaborated with researchers to educate others and the common question: "Will I pass on HIV to my sexual partner?". The answer is, if you have an undetectable viral load and regularly take your prescribed medications, you cannot pass on HIV to sexual partners.

U=U offers people living with HIV freedom and hope. Their goal is to free those from shame and the fear of transmitting HIV. The campaign works hard to end the HIV stigma that destroys peoples lives and reduce anxiety associated with the start of treatment.

What Does it Mean if Your Viral Load is Detectable?

People living with HIV who have a detectable viral load still have highly effective prevention options available. This would include, condoms and PrEP for your HIV negative partners. Regardless of your viral load, people living with HIV can still have healthy, social, and sexual lives.
